Peacock Butterfly

Peacock Butterfly

Well camoflaged by its dark underside when at rest, but if disturbed the eye-spots on the upperside can startle predators. The Peacock must be one of the most conspicuous European butterflies, impossible to confuse with any other. Although not migratory, it is both common and widespread in many habitats. Has wingspan of 54-60mm July- August Eats nettles.
